Thousand Moon: Shri. A. S. Palsule (81+)
Contributed By: Dr. R. Boradkar
Shri
A.S. Palsule recently completed 81 years of his life. Though not a full fledged
Sahastra Chandra Darshan ceremony, a small family get together was arranged to
celebrate the occasion. The celebration offered me an opportunity to delve in
to his mind.
The
Palsules originally belong to Dhootpapeshwar in Kokan. But Shri A.S.Palsule was
born and brought up in Bhandara , a small town near Nagpur . His father Shri Shankarrao Palsule was
a leading legal practitioner in Bhandara. They lived in a Wada and there used
to be frequent family get-togethers with much fun and frolic.
Shri
A.S. Palsule spent a major part of his life in Jamshedpur. He retired from
TISCO and spent some time in Nagpur before finally settling down in Pune. Both
his son and daughter are settled in Pune.
Shri
A.S.Palsule is not given to talking about himself and appears to be
introspective by nature. Though he did not or rather could not specifically
Point
out an event that gave him the utmost joy, I could easily gather from his talk that,
what he enjoyed most was creative work. It seems that patchwork charms him and
so his choice fell on discarded pieces of coloured cloth. He cuts these pieces
in to small squares [size of the squares depends upon the size of the work in
his mind] and then stitches them together to create different patterns.
His
creations include wall hangings, small and large and quilts. Once he presented
two quilts three feet by six feet. I was surprised by the patience and efforts
he must have put in and also the joy he must have derived in making them.
Age
may have decreased his enthusiasm but the pleasure that he derives from his
creative activity is still the same.
